Antique Victorian 1888c sterling silver functional compass fob pendant by Payton Pepper & Co

A beautifully well preserved, and highly collectable Antique Victorian era Sterling silver Nautical themed fob compass pendant. 

A completely splendid collectors piece, this marvellous little compass is fully functional and hallmarked for Birmingham 1888, crafted by skilled English silversmiths, Payton Pepper & Co. 

A quality addition for any collector of Antique silver jewellery, this piece displays a functionalimiature compass that is enclosed behind a glass frame and encased in a solid sterling silver pendant of nautical theme, traditional for this style and era.

Details

• Full hallmarks for Birmingham silver, datable to the year 1888.  A partially worn makers mark is present, suggesting this piece was crafted by Payton Pepper & Co. 
• Intact, fluidless & functional. 
• Weighs 5.55 grams. 
• Measures approx 35mm X 27mm, including the bale attachment. 

Condition 

Very good antique preloved condition with some minor signs of wear that are consistent with age and use. This piece is functional, with the directional pin pulling towards the North when rotated. The glass frame is intact, showing some minor scratches and signs of wear. Some fine marks and scratches to the silver are present. No notable dents or damage are present. The hallmarks show signs of rub wear, however, remain legible under magnification. The bale attachment is a sturdy jeweller made replacement of a later date, and functions well.
