An absolutely incredible Antique Australian 18ct Solid yellow gold patterned wide band ring, crafted by Stuart Dawson & Co, and dated to sometime between 1886 -1907. 

 

This sophisticated and unique Heirloom quality piece is nothing short of impressive, both visually and to wear. Flaunting a solid and substantial design at 8mm wide and weighing a huge 8 grams, this piece not only demands attention, but also feels so luxurious to wear.  History

David Stuart Dawson, born in Scotland in 1849, first founded his business, Stuart Dawson & Co, in Liverpool, England in 1871. Quickly booming in popularity, Dawson's work was in high demand by both the wealthy and middle class folk, and well known for his high quality craftsmanship and the luxury Elegance of his unique designs. 

By 1886, Dawson had opened a new store in Sydney, Australia, later also opening stores in Melbourne, and in Auckland, New Zealand, effectively well branching out his business internationally. 

By the early 1900's, Stuart Dawson & Co had become one of the most successful and highly regarded metal smiths of the British Empire! 

This absolutely Amazing piece is Australian in Craftsmanship, and is dated to sometime between 1886 - 1907 in which the company name was then changed to S.D & Co LTD.

  The pseudo British - Australian hallmarks show an anchor, the number 18 and a Sailing ship, representing that this piece is solid 18ct gold and Australian crafted, accompanied by a bold S.D & Co makers mark.

  • Full hallmarks and makers mark- pseudo British hallmarks, representing the very FIRST hallmarking system of Australia.  
  • Size 6 1/2 US or M UK. 
  • Weighs a heavy and solid 8 grams. 
  • Width of the band measures a consistent 8.5mm wide. 
  • Intricate panels of floral patterned detail covers the full length of the band. 

 

Condition

Very good preloved Antique condition with only minor signs of wear and use, considering the age of this piece.  All detail across the band is Crisp and clear, hallmarks are Crisp showing only minimal signs of wear.  No significant signs of thinning to the band.  An overall incredible antique piece that is well preserved and has been cared for thoughtfully.
