A superb antique Australian 9ct gold Albert chain, weighing a substantial 32.73 grams and measuring a very wearable 45cm in length.

This fine example features a genuine William Drummond & Co. T-bar, stamped W9D, the well-documented maker’s mark used by the prominent Melbourne jeweller around 1890–1910. There is also an unstamped (tested 9ct gold) swivel fob dog clip attachment connected to the T-bar, perfect for clipping a favourite fob or pendant.

The chain itself features classic individually stamped rounded curb links with a warm antique patina. The dog clips are period Australian replacements, each stamped S.G, likely produced by small Australian manufacturing jeweller of the same era, Samuel George Gifford.

This piece is a fine example of antique Australian goldwork from the late Victorian to Edwardian period. The dog clips, although not original to the chain, are authentic antique Australian replacements stamped “S.G”, a mark attributed to Sydney-based findings maker Samuel George Gifford, active c.1890–1915. The use of components from different Australian workshops was entirely typical of the period, and the chain presents itself as a cohesive, well-matched piece of genuine colonial Australian craftsmanship.

Drummond pieces are sought after by collectors of early Australian jewellery. While the dog clips are not original to the chain, all components are genuine period Australian gold from the same era, and are perfectly matched in their warm shade of Rosey hued solid gold.

This incredible investment piece would make a remarkable addition to the collection of any serious collector of Antique Australian fine jewellery.
