Antique 1927 Samuel Hope Heavy 9ct Gold & Ruby Band Ring Size 7 / N

A wonderfully wearable piece of 1920s English jewellery — substantial in gold, simple in design, and brought to life by that gorgeous flash of ruby red.

 

A beautifully substantial piece of English antique jewellery, this striking ring dates to 1927 and was crafted in 9ct yellow gold by Samuel Hope of Birmingham.

 

Unlike the finer, more delicate rings so often seen from this period, this example has a wonderfully solid, weighty construction, weighing just over 4 grams. The broad, softly rounded band gives the ring a bold yet beautifully simple profile, with almost a signet-like presence on the hand.

 

At its centre sits a vibrant round-cut ruby, its rich raspberry-red colouring providing a gorgeous contrast against the warm antique old yellow gold. The stone is nestled within a distinctive geometric lozenge-shaped setting, secured by four decorative claw points. The restrained setting allows the ruby to remain the focus while giving the ring a subtle Art Deco influence characteristic of its 1920s date.

 

The interior retains its wonderfully clear period hallmarks, including the 9 / .375 gold fineness marks, Birmingham assay mark and 1927 date letter, alongside the maker's mark for Samuel Hope.

 

Nearly a century old, the gold displays the gentle surface wear and character expected of a genuine antique piece — something that only adds to its wonderfully authentic, time-worn charm.

•  The width of the band measures a consistent 5mm wide.
•  Weighs 4.37 grams.
•  The genuine Ruby stone measures approx 3mm in diameter.  The Ruby has been tested.

 

CONDITION

 

Good preloved vintage/antique condition with some signs of wear that are commensurate with the age of this piece.  Some fine marks, scratches and antique patina may be present. The ruby is in nice condition, with no cracks, chips, or notable scratches. The ruby is secure in the setting. The band is solid, thick and round, with no signs of thinning.  This is an overall solid and substantial piece of jewellery with plenty of years left to be loved and enjoyed.
