Antique 1920's trademark Kewpie doll ring by Paye & Baker size 5 US or J UK

A wonderfully Rare and nostalgic Antique 1920's sterling silver Kewpie Doll ring! 

This super cute & collectable little piece boasts a trademarked and nicely detailed kewpie doll motif to the face of the ring, with full hallmarks to the reverse of the kewpie.  

History

American made by jewellery manufacturing co Paye & Baker of Attleboro, Massachusetts, this piece is estimated to be dated to 1920's circa, during the height of the Kewpie popularity.  

Originally created by Rose O'Neill in 1909, kewpie's became a popular character across the globe through the artistic expression of articles/ comics written by O'Neill. O'Neill had a passion for Political activism, and channelled her artistic flare through her Kewpie dolls as mascots for advocacy.  

A delightful collectors piece, this ring would make a fantastic gift for collectors who appreciate the work of Rose O'Neill, or simply anyone who adores rare antique sterling silver jewellery! 

Details 

• Full hallmarks are present. Stamped "TRADE MARK KEWPIE" and makers marks P & B, detailed within a trio of hearts, followed by the word "STERLING". 
• this piece measures as a size 5 US or J UK.- evidence of previous resize is present. 
• Internal diameter of the band measures 15mm. 
• The kewpie measures approx 13mm X 8.5mm. 
• Weighs 1.23 grams. 

Condition 

Good antique preloved condition with some signs of wear that are consistent with age and use.  The little kewpie is quite nicely preserved, showcasing crisp detail.  Some fine marks, scratches and darkened patina is present. Evidence of a previous resize is present. The band is nice and round, and no significant thinning to the shank is present.
