A completely fabulous Antique sterling silver engraved locket and book chain necklace, dated to the year 1881, making this piece a marvelous 143 years old.
This piece consists of a delightfully engraved sterling silver oval locket pendant, that is Birmingham hallmarked and combined with a hand crafted sterling silver book chain of a similar era.
A beautifully versatile piece, this book chain could be worn on either side, boasting a tidy blank link to one side, or a patterned cut out link to the other. It could be worn on its own without a pendant, facing the large spring ring clasp to the front or reverse, or keep the locket attached for an extra touch of antique charm.

locket is hallmarked with an "S.C" makers mark, Birmingham anchor, and lion passant, aswell as a fancy letter "g" for the year 1881.
the book chain is unstamped, typical of this era, and has been tested as 925 sterling silver.
the locket weighs 5.57 grams. The chain weighs 39.5 grams. The combined weight of both is 45.05 grams.
the locket measures approx 34mm X 24mm- not including the jump ring.
the chain measures 45cm long X 17mm wide.
Condition
Good preloved antique condition with some signs of wear that are commensurate with age and use. A darkened patina is present. There are a few small dents present to the front and back of the locket. A few of the chain links have been compressed, however this does not affect wear or overall appearance. The compressed links could be adjusted by a jeweller, if desired.
